A Plea For Rain...

“If you think it’s going to rain, it will.” – Clint Eastwood The scalding weather had overtaken the spring in a bounce over the past few months and now it seemed as if the clock wasn’t ticking in this scorching heat. Frustrated by the horrendous cycle of seasons, I stood by the windowpane sighing and waiting for any glimpse of the drizzle. I stretched out my palms for any sign of drop falling from above, closing my eyes and whispering “Please rain!” It seemed as if nature hadn’t shown mercy towards Earth since a year. All the turfs parched up with an irremediable loss of greenery for the time. I felt the burn on my skin due to the ultra violet rays that penetrated through my skin. Even dermatologist recommended sunscreen lotions with UVA 50 proved ineffective. I tried to sweep away my sweat that tickled me on my side head, convincing myself after every interval that the day wasn’t too far when the roads shall be drenched in pure water. A few tiring moments passed by steadily, and gradually, I partially lost hope of the coming of rain this year. The wait seemed to be endless and futile. I was lost in a fog of thoughts recollecting the fun, my friends and I would go through in the wet, rainy days. Those days included in my ‘walk down memory lane’. Truly, amazing days are never to be forgotten. After hours of wallowing for the urge to view the sight of rain, I witnessed the blue sky generously letting the grey clouds begin their rule without any resistance. The moist weather had suddenly begun its reign and the sway of the searing wind changed to the tiny pitter-patter of the raindrops. The cries of joy of the children rushing to splash on the muddy puddles and tasting the first drops of rainfall made me nostalgic about my childhood when I used to soak myself in the rain and later return home drenched in soggy mud, looking rain bathed! Children from the neighborhood jumped out with raging excitement. I could notice them rising from an intimidating darkness to a vivacious atmosphere. The birds settled to start chirping with their impressive and exclusively gifted baritone. The dewdrops on the delicate foliage made it appear realistic. The first rain spelt magic on the minds of everyone. The first drops rejuvenated the lives of thousands. They say, anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain. At last, this was the day I was waiting for since ages. My lips began to curve steadily as I reflected on my plea for rain amongst those thousands which reached the heavenly abode in the day. Who said true wishes don’t come true?!
